Hey Pro Fans!
Is your iPhone about to explode? Are full storage notifications keeping you from enjoying your phone? Don't worry! Today I'm here to help you free up space on your iPhone.
I've compiled a series of effective strategies to optimize your iPhone's storage and improve its performance.
iPhone Memory Recognition
The first step to freeing up space on your iPhone is to perform a scan. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage to analyze the color bar that shows you which apps and files are taking up the most space. Pay attention to the colors:
- Gray (free space)
- Blue (applications)
- Green (photos and videos)
- Yellow (other files)
Identify the categories that consume the most space and focus on them to optimize your storage.
Tactics for storage optimization
There are many ways to optimize iPhone storage, in this article I show you 10 of them:
1. Move old files to external media or the cloud:
- External storage: Use external hard drives, USB flash drives, or SD cards to store your old media files.
- Cloud storage: Services like iCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox allow you to store your files online and access them from any device.
2. Outsource applications that you don't use frequently:
The iOS "Externalize Apps" feature allows you to free up space without losing your data. This means that the app's files and documents will be retained, but the app itself will be stored in iCloud. To externalize an app, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage .
- Select the application you want to externalize.
- Click on " Externalize application ".
3. Optimize the quality of your photos and videos:
Turn on Optimize Photos in Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Photos . This will save your photos and videos in full resolution to iCloud, while lower-resolution versions will be stored on your iPhone. This way, you can enjoy your memories without sacrificing storage space.
4. Delete unnecessary files
Over time, unnecessary files accumulate on your iPhone and can take up valuable space. To delete them and free up space, follow these recommendations:
- Clear your browser cache:
Your browser's cache stores temporary data from the websites you visit. Clearing the cache can free up space and improve browser performance. To do this, go to Settings > Safari and select " Clear History and Web Page Data ."
- Remove duplicate photos:
Starting with iOS 16, you can automatically find and delete duplicate photos on your iPhone. This feature allows you to quickly identify and delete unnecessary copies of your photos.
- Disable automatic downloads:
Automatic media downloads in apps like WhatsApp can quickly accumulate and take up unnecessary space. Disable automatic downloads in these apps' settings.
- Delete old emails and attachments:
Old emails, especially those with large attachments, can take up considerable space on your iPhone. Delete old emails and attachments you no longer need.
5. Turn off the "Keep Originals" option in Photos
When you sync photos to your computer, you can choose to have your iPhone not keep the original high-resolution files. This option allows your device to keep optimized versions and free up space. To turn it off, go to Settings > Photos > Optimize iPhone Storage . This helps reduce storage usage without sacrificing access to your high-quality photos. When necessary, use Automatic App Cleanup: iOS includes a feature that allows the system to automatically detect and remove apps that haven't been used in a while, freeing up space without you having to do it manually. To turn it on, go to Settings > App Store > Uninstall Unused Apps .
6. Text Message Storage Settings
Old messages can take up considerable space, especially if they contain large attachments. Set your iPhone to automatically delete messages after a certain period, such as 30 days or a year. Go to Settings > Messages > Keep Messages and select the period that best suits you.
7. Reduce video resolution
Videos recorded in 4K take up a lot of space. If you don't need that quality, set your camera to record in HD resolution (1080p) instead of 4K. Go to Settings > Camera > Record Video and select a lower resolution.
8. Cache management in applications
Some social media or entertainment apps accumulate cache data over time, which can take up significant space. Uninstall and reinstall these apps or check each app's settings for cache clearing options. For example, apps like Spotify and YouTube allow you to clear caches and downloads without affecting your playlists or preferences.
9. Manage third-party app file storage
Many third-party apps, such as social networking, messaging, and gaming apps, accumulate cached data and temporary files that can take up a lot of space. While iOS doesn't allow you to clear the cache for all apps directly, you can do so by uninstalling and reinstalling apps. This clears stored data and frees up space without losing your user credentials or settings. To check which apps are taking up the most space, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and review the list of apps sorted by storage usage.
10. Factory reset
If you've tried all the options above and your iPhone is still full, you can reset it to factory settings. Remember that this will erase all your data , so it's crucial to make a full backup before proceeding. To reset your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or reset iPhone > Erase all content and settings .
