Samsung has just unveiled its two foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 clamshell phones, a significant selling point in terms of price and changes to its secondary display, and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 to strengthen its position in the field of flip-style cell phones.
Learn about the most important changes to Samsung's 2023 flagship phones.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
This new Galaxy Z Flip 5 has taken center stage thanks to its exterior display, which has taken on board all the criticisms of previous models and has presented an improved version.
The screen has increased from 1.9 inches in the previous version to 3.4 inches in this new version.
The advantage of having a larger screen is the ability to access a wide range of apps without having to open it. Some of these include YouTube, Netflix, Google Messages, and WhatsApp. And while it has been limited in the number of apps it displays, it's a major improvement.
The list of apps is sure to grow over time, as it requires collaboration with developers due to its Samsung-specific format.
The hinge has also undergone positive changes, as there is no longer any space when closing, resulting in a stronger hinge.
As expected, the platform has been updated to the Snapdragon Gen 2, adapted to the Galaxy, and it has increased memory capacity, reaching 256 GB. So, while there are no changes to the battery, greater energy efficiency is expected.
For the rest of the device, there have been no major changes; the glass, its weight, the position of the fingerprint reader, the 3,700 mAh battery with 25W fast charging, and the cameras have the same configuration.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5
In the Galaxy Z Fold 5, changes have been made to the hinge, now with less dimension and weight, although it must be said, it is necessary to detail it very well to observe the small changes to the exterior that have been made.
As for the interior panel, you also get the feeling that you are looking at the same phone as its predecessor.
So the main changes in this new model are on the inside: the presence of Snapdragon Gen 2 has increased its energy efficiency and sharper images.
As for memory, all models start with 12 GB of RAM, but other than these changes, there isn't much to say.
Criticism has been swift for both models, which lack much more ambition in the changes. And although Samsung remains the leading brand in foldable phones, it will have to continue working hard to avoid falling behind its closest competitors.
