If you're arriving in Chile from abroad with your new cell phone and can't make calls, it's likely that your device has lost its network connection. This is a simple solution; you just need to validate your device .
If this isn't your case, here are the other most common causes and how to fix them.
-
Airplane mode is on
The easiest way to check is to see if you have airplane mode activated. This often happens by mistake, blocking some phone functions, including making calls.
To check if this option is activated, open the menu and see if the airplane icon (airplane mode) is activated.
-
Caller coverage problem
To resolve any issues, it's best to dial the number you want to reach several times, with a 5-minute interval between calls. If the problem persists after several attempts, try calling other numbers and see what happens. If the call to other numbers drops, the problem lies with the recipient.
-
Problems with your phone coverage
If you're outside your usual area, you may be experiencing coverage issues. This happens when your phone's antenna isn't strong enough or when structures in your area interfere with the signal.
In these cases, all that's left is to move around until we find the place with the strongest signal to make calls.
-
Moving from one communication standard to another
Often, when you're in an area with up to 4G connectivity and you move to a 5G area, or vice versa, it causes an error on your phone that prevents it from working properly.
In this case, all you have to do is restart it for all its functions to return correctly.
-
SIM card removal
Another common cause is a dislodged SIM card, which can happen when your phone has been dropped or hit, even a minor impact. You'll see on the screen that you have no network or coverage.
To fix this problem, simply remove the SIM card to clean it and reinsert it again. Once you've inserted it, restart your phone and check if you can now make calls.
-
Check for any hardware failures on your smartphone
The card tray may be damaged. To check, try inserting the card into another phone that accepts your carrier. If the card works, your smartphone's tray most likely has a problem.
This can happen when the phone has been hit.
If you have another card that works and accepts your phone, insert it to check if it works.
If your phone is under warranty, take it directly to the place you purchased it so they can guide you on what to do.
