Vision Pro are Apple's mixed reality headsets with which the brand ventures into the virtual world to compete with the likes of Oculus Quest , PlayStation VR , and Pico 4. Although it should be noted that the brand itself has announced that they are not just headsets; they prefer to refer to them as "Apple's first space computer."
Recall that Apple has referred to its previous devices as the Mac, the first personal computer, and the iPhone as the first mobile computer.
The truth is that, although Vision Pro will not be released until the first quarter of 2024, it has announced the launch of tools that will allow developers to explore Apple Vision Pro such as Simulator (the Vision Pro emulator) so that developers can test applications before having the headset in their hands.
Let's look at the tools already available to help you discover Vision Pro.
Tools to Discover Apple Vision Pro
Simulator
It's the Vision Pro emulator that uses Apple's glasses software, giving developers access to the same apps that Vision Pro will feature. This way, developers can render, that is, generate photorealistic images from a 2D or 3D model, creating renders.
Reality Composer Pro
Reality Composer Pro is another tool developers already have for creating 3D content in VisionOS. This tool allows you to import and organize digital assets such as sounds, materials, and 3D models.
X Code updated
X Code 15 Beta 2 is now available for download, supporting the visionOS SDK. Simply add a new target to your existing project or create a completely new app. By creating tests, developers can explore collisions, occlusions, and scene understanding for spatial content.
Unity
Unity, the most popular game development platform, is collaborating with Apple to give developers access to familiar creation tools and make it easier to get started with Vision Pro.
To access this tool, developers must be selected for the Unity for VisionOS beta program. Once selected, they will have access to tutorials, templates, and sample applications. They can work with existing Unity-created content or create completely new content.
We're confident that with these tools now available to developers, Vision Pro will be widely accepted from day one of its release.
Indeed, it is expected to be an infinite canvas for apps at work and at home, impactful entertainment experiences, immersive environments that bring memories to life, and a unique and revolutionary design for its Apple customers.
